Santorini, Greece

Santorini is beautiful island with little towns builtĀ on the top of the cliff that overlooks another small island with a volcano on it.

I previously spent 2 nights on the island in 2011 with the Busabout “Bandits” staying at Hotel Antonia – a memorable trip.

The island has 2 ports: Athinios port for ferry and commercial boats (which can dock on land) and the Old port that is only for cruise ship travellers (vessels remain at sea and tenders ferry passengers to shore). Note: free WiFi connection available to all in the Old Port.

I arrived by cruise ship and had to take a tender to the Old Port.

There is a cable car that can transport you to the top of the cliff into the town Fira, but I chose to walk up 588 stairs to the top. People can also ride donkeys to the top, although I would advise that you not do this as these donkeys are not treated well.

Fira has what you can find in many other cruise ship ports – jeweler stores, souvenir shops and restaurants.

There are also the churches with blue roofs throughout the island. The place offers picture perfect sunsets.

I did not get a chance to revisit Oia, a town also offering amazing sunset views on my last trip as it is 15-20 minutes away from Oia by bus.

The island also has a Red Beach and Black beach which I only visited in 2011.

Sunset. sailing away from Santorini is also amazing.
